"This place is a little off the beaten path but you can access it easily by hopping on the streetcar/hop on/off bus. Truly a unique museum. There is a tour that is pretty quick (one hour tops) and you can continue to wonder around the warehouse and look at the displays/floats. There are hundreds if not thousands of pieces that have been used on Mardi Gras floats in the past or awaiting repurposing for the future floats. You can see the robot that cuts the floats and the painters bringing them to life. Definitely a quick, affordable, must see stop if in NOLA."
"Went to the venue for a special event for the opening night celebration for a conference. Definitely not your typical event venue. Was cool how we got to walk around and see the floats before heading to the party. Was neat to see the floats up close. Pure artistry! We enjoyed seeing where the floats are “born” in the styrofoam room."
"A fun place to check out! We loved seeing the old, new, and soon to be props for the parades. We also enjoyed learning the history and didn't know how many parades actually go on during Mardi gras! This is a fun, fast tour where you can actually watch them work on the floats if you're there at the right time. They also have a kuka machine which I thought was cool. The voodoo dolls are much more expensive here at $15 a piece when even at the airport they were only 10."
A quick, one-hour tour makes this a great stop for any time of day, fitting easily into a busy New Orleans itinerary.
Accessing Mardi Gras World is easy via the streetcar or hop-on/off bus, even though it's a bit off the main tourist path. If you time your visit right, you might even catch artisans actively working on floats, bringing the experience to life. While special events can transform the venue, the core experience revolves around the float workshops.
